New Aluminium Doors for the Priory School, Orpington

Unique Windows was recently asked to fit fire doors in Priory School in Orpington. This is a key assignment for Unique Windows and a significant achievement for the company.

Not only did we achieve a fantastic finish, we very much enjoyed working with the staff at the school. This is one of the first occasions that aluminium fire doors have been installed in a school in the UK.

The Task

Priory School is located in Orpington within the London borough of Bromley incorporating five separate colleges plus a sixth form. The school opened in 1990 and was awarded academy status in 2012.

The staff asked Unique Windows to fit internal fire doors in the school to modernise the appearance and improve safety standards.

Our Aluminium Fire Doors

Priory School felt that aluminium fire doors would be the best fit for the school building. Aluminium is an affordable, lightweight alternative to steel fire doors, and it’s easier for our team to work with, so we can pass cost savings on to the client. The transportation costs are lower, too, so the school saved money on the new fire doors compared to equivalent steel alternatives.

We also recommend aluminium because we can adapt the doors and frames to match practically any setting. Our internal fire doors were finished in smart white to complement the fresh white paintwork in the school corridors.

Thanks to the new aluminium fire doors, Priory School benefits from a safer exit route in the event of a fire, ensuring the safety of staff and pupils. Our aluminium fire doors have glass panels that provide at least 30 minutes’ integrity and incorporate seals that prevent the passage of smoke.

Finishing the Job

Our team are aware of the pressures teachers and pupils face in busy schools. We worked quickly and efficiently and ensured we left all areas clean and tidy at the end of each working day. The team at the school was delighted with the results, and we hope that other schools in London will opt for aluminium fire doors when their older doors need to be replaced.
